Support Our Junior Coaches at Crostyx Hockey Club!

At Crostyx Hockey Club, we’re incredibly proud of our junior coaching team. These dedicated, passionate individuals – many of whom are current or former players – give up their weekends to coach our young players, helping them develop their skills, confidence, and love for the game. We want to do more to support these coaches, and we need your help!

Why Sponsor a Junior Coach?

By sponsoring a coach, you’ll be investing directly in the future of our club and the development of young players. Sponsorships will help cover key costs such as:

  • Coaching badges to ensure our coaches are equipped with the latest techniques and qualifications.
  • First aid courses to keep our players safe on the field.
  • A small contribution towards their travel expenses.

Each coach requires around £1,500 to cover the hockey season (from September to April), which includes their training, certifications, and other essential support. We’re looking to raise these funds for the following junior coaches:

  • Ellie Prideaux
  • Rory Pears
  • Scott McGinlay
  • Emma Thorne
  • Tony Sandford
  • Alex Bowley
  • Andrew Delaney

Ellie Prideaux

A Bit About Me;
Hi, I’m Ellie, and I’ve been coaching our wonderful minis for the past 3 years. Coaching the U8s and U6s is always a little chaotic, but in the best way, and I’ve loved seeing our youngest players build their confidence.

Recently, some of our U8s have been playing in their own tournaments and it’s safe to say we have some superstars in the making. Our group seems to be growing year on year, with our youngest players turning up at 3 years old. It’s brilliant seeing the kids learn to love hockey so young and are always so excited to come back and learn each week.

I hope to see plenty of our youngsters playing in the 1st teams in years to come 💜

Rory Pears

A Bit About Me:
Hi, I’m Rory, I’m 27 and have been coaching the U10s for the last 4 seasons and have been a member of Crostyx for 5.

Why I Coach the Junior Team:
From not winning any games for most of year one to being crowned Essex Champions in 2024, it’s been an amazing journey. To see the lads grow into young hockey players has made all those early Saturdays worth it.

Consistency is key at this age group and before Simon and I are started, the club didn’t have a consistent coach for this group. Since then, we’ve had a core group of coaches with the addition of Scotty and help from the parents who have provided a safe and fun space for the lads to play hockey. This is something I’m proud to be a part of.

Scott McGinlay

A Bit About Me:
I’m Scott, I’m 21 and as well as coaching at Crostyx I also Captain the Men’s 3rd Team.

I love coaching at Crostyx and working with the kids, I take a range including the u10, u12 and u14 boys. It’s great to be able see them develop into playing adult hockey. The club has such a great family feel and this makes it a really enjoyable environment. It’s such a rewarding feeling knowing we’re helping the next generation of Crostyx.

Emma Thorne

Why I Coach the Junior Team:
I’m Emma, and I’ve been coaching within the junior set up at Crostyx since 2018. I started out helping the budding goalkeepers, some of whom are currently thriving in the senior teams now, and I have now been the U10 girls’ coach for the last two seasons.

The best part about this age group is being able to track their development over the season and watching them grow as people and as players. This age group is key in setting the foundations which will later support their successes through the age groups and into the senior teams, and the priority is to grow their game awareness and confidence as well as their fundamental skills, so that they can learn whilst having fun doing a sport they hopefully fall in love with!

Tony Sandford

A Bit About Me:
Hello, I’m Tony.

Why I Coach the Junior Team:
I coach to give something back, I hope that the people I coach not only gain the skills and knowledge of the sport but experience on how to play in a team while growing as individuals in an environment that is safe and free.

Alex Bowley

A Bit About Me:
Hi I’m Alex, I’ve been playing since I was in the womb and had a hockey stick before I had a name.

Why I Coach the Junior Team:
I joined Crostyx a year ago and have loved every minute of it. I have played for multiple teams and feel fully welcomed by the Crostyx family. I started coaching partly because I wanted to give something back to this amazing club.

I help coach various different age groups and enjoy working with the kids during training and seeing them put what we teach them into practice in match settings. I have enjoyed playing hockey all my life and try and convey my own enthusiasm for the game when I coach. I strive to make hockey as enjoyable for the kids as it has been and continues to be for me. I hope that all of the crostyx juniors discover their love for hockey just like I have.

Andrew Delaney

A Bit About Me:
Coaching – especially coaching juniors can be endlessly frustrating. Standing in the rain, no-one paying attention, your voice growing hoarser by the minute. It’s tempting to ask: What am I doing here? But, then….
We win possession at the back, push up through midfield, touched off down the right, baseline, pullback, goal. Maybe they were listening after all. Priceless.

Of course, there’s the underdog spirit when we’re up against the behemoths of the leagues we play in (you know who they are). But mostly it’s the welcoming nature of the people, the friendly can-do attitude and the comfortable feeling from being a member both on the field and off. Crostyx is indeed small but perfectly formed.
